Visiting Songkhla City Pillar Lak Muang ~ 城隍庙 At SongKhla - Thailand.

Songkhla Old Town is a peaceful place and local people have a simple lifestyle. There are beautiful ancient buildings in Chino-Portuguese art style on old city Songkhla. Here we first to visited Songkhla City Pillar Shrine 城隍庙 on Nang Ngam Road and this is a Chinese style shrine and built at the same time when Songkhla City was established. Inside, there is a City Pillar Lak Muang made from Javanese cassia wood.

The sacred Wooden City Pillar Lak Muang. The sacred City Pillar placement ceremony began when Phraya Songkhla (Tianseng), the regent of Songkhla with officers and local people built ceremony halls in 4 directions at the center of Songkhla City in front of the City Pillar Shrine, Muang District and created a large parade including Thai and Chinese people to carry the wood and the candle to the ceremony hall of Buddhist monks. The group of Thananukrom Charoen PhraParit and monks prayed at the sacred time, the 10th day of waxing moon in the 4th month, in the year of tiger, 1204th year of Thai minor era (1842) at 7.10 am or 10 March 1842, Phraya Songkhla (Tianseng) with PhraKhru Assadachan and Hinsu priests placed the wood at the center of Songkhla which is called "Lak Muang" until nowadays. After the pillar was located, a parade was held for 5 days and 5 nights.

The Hall stage for Opera, a Chinese Opera performances are occassionally put on here during festivals.

The King Chulalongkorn (Rama V), the King of Thailand who is also loved by the people of the nation as well. His Majesty traveled to various localities in Thailand for part of come closeness to local Thai people. The city "Songkhla" is one of city where His Highness visits regularly and from the recorded evidence, he visited Songkhla 10 times altogether, both before ascending to the throne and after ascending to the throne.
