Visiting Wat Phra Thong BE2567 ~ Amazing Golden LuangPho Phra Phut “Buddha That Emerges From The Ground” ~ Phuket - Thailand.

A very unique of Wat Phra Thong with large Phra Buddha statue which only shows its upper half image as if it emerges from the ground. If you are in Phuket, make some time to go see this famous temple. Wat Phra Thong or Wat Phra Phut (by Buddha name LuangPho Phra Phut ~ Buddha that emerges from the ground) is considered as one of the unseen tourist attractions because there is only half of the main Buddha image in the temple that looks like it has sprung up from the underground. There are several myths about the Golden Buddha statue, been told in several styles, but all contains one main concept that no one could ever dig up this Golden Buddha statue so people gave up, restored it as it is today.

The front side of the Ubosot with info board and boy statue next to the entrance. Legend has it that a farmer boy, who tied his buffalo to an object that looked like a post in an open field, fell very ill and died not long afterwards, along with his buffalo. The poor father dreamed about this incident and went to check the post, which turned out to be the top part of statue from a big buried Buddha image. Many villagers came to help with digging it up but only managed to expose half of the statue. They simply couldn’t dig it up no matter how many times they tried. The idea to build a temple around this half-buried Buddha statue came when a monk on a pilgrimage spotted the holy image. Wat Phra Thong has become the spiritual centre of local communities ever since. A more rational explanation as to why there is a half-buried Buddha image at Wat Phra Thong is that a nearby canal changed direction and flooded the area, leaving it under a layer of silt.

The Mondop of Wat Phra Thong, inside we could pay respected to former abbot of Wat Phra Thong.
Wat Phra Thong Bell tower and also the animal statues.
The Museum of Wat Phra Thong, displaying many artifacts from the early days of Phuket including some protective clothing used by miners during the boom and some 'teen-tuk' foot bindings worn by early female Chinese settlers, tin-mining paraphernalia, a Chinese dowry basket, food carriers, cannons and Javanese daggers. The building is not open yet during my visited at early morning.

Old cannons still on display at temple ground, next with the Shrine Phra Phrom. In a historical context, the temple dates back to the 18th century and has witnessed events like the Burmese invasion of 1785 where it played a role as a fort for the defending forces. The story of the heroic Thao Thep Kasattri and Thao Sri Sunthon, two sisters who led the resistance against the invaders, is intricately intertwined with Wat Phra Thong. These cannons may once have been used to fight off Burmese invaders in the late 18th century.
