Revisited Again (BE2567) Wat Rakhang Kositaram Woramahawihan - Bangkok - Thailand.

Wat Rakhang Kositaram Woramahawihan formerly known as Wat Bang Wa Yai. An old temple that has existed since the Ayutthaya period. During the reign of King Rama I, this temple was rebuilt and a bell was discovered there. The old bell that was discovered has the characteristic of having a good sound. The sound was especially beautiful, so King Rama I graciously ordered it. Bring it to Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram. (Wat Phra Kaew Morakot) by building 5 compensatory bells, which can be seen in the bell tower inside the current temple Wat Rakhang. After that, the name of the new temple was bestowed from the original name Wat Bang Wa Yai to "Wat Rakhang Kositaram Woramahawihan"

The large statue of Phra Putthacharn Toh was newly built and located in the pier area, facing Phra Nakhon ~ Wat Phra Sri Rattana Satsadaram (Wat Phra Kaew Morakot).

The Main Phra Buddha statue is named Luang Phor Yim Rap Fa. The principal Buddha image in the temple which is named Yim Rab Fa. It received its name from King Rama V.

Statues of former abbot of Wat Rakhang Somdet Phra Putthacharn Toh (Toh Phrom Rangsi) who many people pay respects to him.

This is Phra Wiharn Somdet Phra Sangharaja (Sri) is where the relics of Somdet Phra Sangharaja (Sri) are housed. Previously, there were many old Buddha images venerated inside here, but they have been moved out to be placed outside there for easy worshiper to worship. At present, only Phra Sri Ariya Maitreya remains. (The next Buddha).

The White Chedi of Phra Prang built in the reign of King Rama I is a Phra Prang of early Rattanakosin architecture. It is very beautiful, which is considered a prototype for the construction of prangs in later eras.

Beautiful building of The Tripitaka Hall was originally the residence of King Rama I before he ascended the throne. It is in the form of three twin houses. A place you must visit when come to Wat Rakhang.

Wat Rakhang - Phra Tripitaka Hall

The Tripitaka Hall is one of the beautiful buildings in the temple stands at the back towards the west of the Ubosot. The outer wall of this hall is painted red. Inside there are mural paintings by Phra Achan Nak who was a well-known artist in the court of the King Rama I.

The Tripitaka Hall was originally the residence of King Rama I when he was still Phra Ratchawarintra when Thonburi still the capital.

The gate of Tripitaka Hall was changed to a new one during my visit in year 2008 and 2009. The old one was stored inside the Tripitaka Hall.
Inside the Tripitaka hall,you can see a portrait of King Rama I when he was still Phra Ratchawarintra.
Phra Nak Prok Buddha is venerates on the altar.

A telling vignette of ordinary people during the late Ayutthaya period can be glimpsed in this mural painting in the scripture repository inside the Tripitaka Hall of Wat Rakhang Khositaram. Men are engaged in building a house and a pavilion, while women are busy cooking.

Wat Rakhang Khositaram Woramahawiharn In Bangkok Thailand.

This Royal Temple is the second grade of Woramahawiharn, which was built during the Ayutthaya period. Its original name was Wat Bangwa Yai. In 1769, the temple was raised to be a Royal Temple by King Taksin The Great. He then graciously ordered to bring Phra Tripitaka (Buddhist Scriptures) from Nakhon Si Thammarat province to be revised. In the reign of King Rama I, the ancient bell was found there, King Rama I had the bell moved to the temple of the Emerald Buddha and built 5 bells to donate back to the temple. Thence it was called Wat Rakhang.

A major restoration had been carried out by Somdet Khom Phraya Thepsudawadi, the eldest sister of King Rama I. The temple used to be a residence of Somdet Phra Sangkharat Si, the first Supreme Patriarch of the Rattanakosin period and Somdet Phra Buddhachan (Toh Phrom Rangsi).

There is an old Tripitaka Hall situated in the area of the temple. It was original residence of King Rama I, when he was still Phra Ratchawarintra, when Thonburi was still the capital.
The temple entrance is at the end of the small lane. Many devotees make they way through the small lane before entering to Wat Rakhang.
The Phra Prang (Khmer style chedi) in Wat Rakhang and is considered to be an important achievement of the early Bangkok period. At the centre, one of the Buddha images standing in the alcove at four side of the Phra Prang.

The temple is offering the blessing Holy water to devotees. Many devotees are offering prayers to Arjhan Toh statue and past abbot statue by pasting the gold foil on the statue.
